Celebrating Canadian Innovation Week: May 13 - 17, 2024

Wednesday, May 15, 2024

To honour and celebrate Canadian Innovation Week, Najah Sampson, President of Pfizer Canada, shared her thoughts on why cross-sector collaboration is essential for bringing innovative therapies to patients.

By Najah Sampson, Pfizer Canada President

Canada has long been a key player on the world stage of innovation, surrounded by diverse and ambitious talent – nowhere is this more prevalent than in the healthcare industry. Given the many complex, health-related challenges facing us today, it is critical to continue pushing boundaries to get ahead of the needs of Canadians.

At Pfizer, we believe it is our responsibility as a biopharmaceutical company, to drive innovation forward. By seeking partners and collaborators in other sectors, we aim to mobilize our combined strengths and talents to deliver for patients in Canada and around the world.

One example of such commitment is Pfizer Canada’s Healthcare Hub. This initiative was launched to help solve some of the pressing Canadian health challenges by uncovering purpose-built solutions from homegrown healthcare companies. The first cohort of Call-for-Solution winners was announced in 2023 and Pfizer is excited to provide support to help accelerate their solutions, hoping to make a meaningful impact on healthcare in Canada.

CANImmunize

A technology solution that helps healthcare providers navigate complex immunization guidelines to enhance both patient safety and the healthcare provider experience, ultimately improving vaccine awareness and uptake.

“We’re grateful for the connection Pfizer provides with people who have experience with navigating discussions with the government. This is an area where assistance has been very welcome.” – Cameron Bell, CEO and Co-founder

PharmaGuide

An innovative patient portal, PharmaVision, that will use artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the drug coverage processes – eventually predicting the coverage by an insurer, with the goal of promoting transparency, informed decision-making, and better patient care.

“Pfizer has been instrumental in helping us build awareness of our solutions and services through programs like Healthcare Hub. They've been great at connecting us with different industry experts that helped to accelerate various aspects of our solution.”– Faddy Morgan, COO

Wave View Imaging

A novel breast imaging medical device that could provide accessible, comfortable, and convenient breast imaging for women of all ages. The device will first deliver breast density assessments but has the potential to address a currently unmet clinical need for neoadjuvant treatment monitoring, allowing Oncologists to monitor tumour response in clinic.

“We're grateful to have a partnership with Pfizer in place. We see huge benefit from access to a network of experts, particularly in relation to our treatment monitoring application and regulatory requirements.” – Jérémie Bourqui, CEO and Co-founder

We’re thrilled to hear the positive feedback from our innovation partners firsthand and look forward to seeing the impact of their solutions. It is exciting to be a part of their journey.

While the Healthcare Hub is one example of Pfizer’s commitment to the support of Canadian innovation, we believe there is significant untapped opportunity within the country, especially when we work to harness the power of collaboration and partnership.

Canada continues to gain global recognition on the innovation stage thanks to the abundance of our talent. We would like to recognize during this Canadian Innovation Week all Canadian innovators who are making us proud. Let’s continue to work together so we can bring transformational, Canadian solutions to the life sciences sector.
